Dexter

Allow me to start by saying I have no idea when this show aired, or if it is indeed still truckin', but boy is it good. It follows the plight of a man with a hunger for human mutilation, Dexter Morgan. By day, he's a charming (albeit occasionally stoic) blood-splatter analyst working for the Miami PD, but by night, a cunning, merciless serial killer. Don't shut your heart to him yet! You haven't even met him! If I had to pick a serial killer for a best friend it would be Dexter, because even though he does tend to decapitate and power-drill people from time to time, the man has a heart of gold.
At an early age, Dexter exhibited the sure signs of the night stalker which were duly noted with an eerie degree of acceptance by his mick-cop adoptive father. "Dexter" he says during their many talks in dark, overlit rooms, "This is the way you are. You still can't remember a single thing from your past before I adopted you, but you will have a lust for blood for the rest of your life. The only way to deal with this is to hone it. You must channel it and use it for good." Thus, an antihero is born.
Dexter, unlike most serial killers, is driven by the will to keep peace, order, and safety in the lives of his (sadly unsavory) town by killing just the very individuals who would see it bathed in blood and semen (I know.. *sigh*.. I am very sick). He's kind of committing what I see to be a sort of "negative murder", and by that I mean he's the means for one death, which ultimately erases a multiple rash of other would-be murders. He's Batman with balls. Not only is he willing to kill, but he actually savors the craft of homicide. He is an artist of amputation and his logic is seemingly flawless (what does that say about me? O_o).
And if the wonderfully perverse storyline doesn't tickle your fancy, the sheer tenacity of the monologues supposedly taking place within the secrecy of his mind are just beautiful to hear. The writing is well paced, and presents an image of the psychopathic mind in such a way that you will occasionally find yourself stopping to ask in a troubled inner voice if it's just the talent of the actor and the writer that makes all his justifications so.... right. If you want my opinion, I don't think there's a single person on this earth that would mind sinking a meat cleaver into some scumbag's brain (as long as they had the confidence that they would get away with it, of course).
Overall: The story is intoxicating, he actors execute their roles in a very flawless and believable way, and the package as a whole is just too good to turn down. If I had the time and energy, I would eagerly sit down to watch all four series's in one sitting (with Ludovico clips should they prove necessary).

The Verdict: RECOMMENDED
